Its a Landrover thing ..you wouldnt
understand.
Hi cyberfolks,
The other day PaPa (Navjeet;; Tajs brother) called me and said that at the
local car yard there was an old Landrover for sale...... Well my ears shot up,
and off I charged to the yard, and we went Halvers on it and got
it.....WHY....... Unless you have lived in India, and have at some time
in your childhood gone to Darjeeling... I would assume that would be in the
60's or before, you can't associate with the legend that hangs around this
machine... in those days the only cars that hacked around the hill station
were old Landys, and even at the old cab rank down in the market, when you
spoke to the drivers , they would tell you this was the car to hire, or you
wouldn't make it up Tiger Hill.... bit of a Bhut... but as a kid I would look
awe-inspiringly at the landy, as a rugged go anywhere machine. This is
no poofter 4x4. It has fixed seats, sliding windows, not a stitch of
padding anywhere, an old 2.5 petrol, with a Dizzy and a carby, so if it
doesnt start, , you can dive under the bonnet, and have a fiddle... lets see
if you can do that in your chariot..... not likely......Look I know all
of you drive fancy.... Nancy cars... hey but when you enjoy cars as much as I
do, its really refreshing to get your hands on an old legend like this one. No
CD player...... no....... what you listen for when you drive this is the whine
of the four speed box, and the hum of the mud terrain tyres on the road,
and the exhaust note as it slowly goes through the rev range............
Well , I guess by this time you probably think
I'm nuts so all I can say to all of you is...........
ITS A LANDROVER THING YOU WOULD'NT UNDERSTAND.
