The World Rally Championship began in 1973.
This year there will be 14 events on the World Rally Championship
calendar.
Like Formula 1, the WRC is governed by the Federation Internationale
de L'automobile, better known as the FIA.
Manufacturers actively involved in the WRC include Subaru, Ford,
Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Hyundai, Seat and Skoda. Other makes you will see
used in the WRC are Toyota, Proton, Volkswagen, Citroen, Renault,
Nissan, Suzuki, Daihatsu, Opel, Honda, and more.
Global Broadcasting of the WRC has become a reality over the past 6
years. The WRC is now broadcast in 183 countries. FIA media analysis
says that in 1999 over 3 billion viewers world wide watched WRC
television programs.
International Sportsworld Communicators have held the television
rights for the WRC, however a company led by Prodrive boss, David
Richards, has bought these rights and great things are expected for
the future by rally Teams, sponsors and fans alike.
